Strumaria and Hessea are genera of small bulbs in the Family Amaryllidcaea from southern Africa, mostly from the western Cape Province, where they experience mild wet winters and dry summers. Strumaria and Hessea are very closely related, differing in anatomical features. Both make excellent container plants.

The dainty umbels of white to pale pink have protruding stamens, and hang to one side of the stem. The base of the flower stem is encased in a maroon sheath or cataphyll. Delightful grouped in a pot.
