Tropaeolums are best known to gardeners as brightly colored annuals called Nasturtiums (Tropaeolum major) that twine and trail to fill our gardens with color.  It is not so well-known that there are
perennial Tropaeolum species that are small, rather delicate climbing vines that grow from a tuberous rootstock.  All Tropaeolums are native to Central and South America, the ones listed here being native to dry regions of Chile and Argentina.  Many of the tuberous-rooted Tropaeolums are not easy to grow, and need patience and experience to succeed.

Tropaeolum brachyceras.
One of the easier Tropaeolums. Lovely frilly bright lemon yellow flowers cover this beautiful species from Chile.  Small blooming-size tubers.
